Most Masonic Lodges are local and serve their immediate, surrounding areas, which is great, and completely necessary – that “local” feel for a Lodge. But Jacques Demolay #1390 really isn’t like that. Well, that’s not right, we are, but we’re also not. It’s a Houston thing.

Houston is considered by many to be the most diverse city in the United States. Our Greater Houston Metropolitan area is roughly 10,000 square miles, encompassing nine counties along the Gulf Coast of Texas. For reference, we’re just slightly smaller than Massachusetts and a little larger than New Jersey. Harris County, the county that contains (not that we can be contained) the City of Houston, is the third most populous in the United States.

Greater Houston is made up of many other cities, each one with their own personality, but if someone not from here asks where you’re from, you don’t say Baytown. You say Houston. I don’t tell people I live in Cypress, I say “North West Houston”. Again, for scale, the distance between Cypress and Baytown is 47.2 miles, according to Google. And yet we are all Houston.

We’re also growing. Rapidly. Because of our economic opportunities, people from all over the Earth come here to pursue their dreams and most of us welcome them.

That’s what Jacques Demolay is.

We don’t serve Cypress, we don’t serve Baytown. We serve Greater Houston. We are Houston. We are a very diverse Lodge, like Houston – a mix of Natives and people from pretty much everywhere else. We are Republicans, Democrats, Socialists and Capitalists. We are Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and pretty much everything else. We are sports fans and comic book nerds. We are artists and corporate sell outs. Most importantly, we are Brothers.

We meet on most Thursdays at the Houston Scottish Rite Center, a fantastic facility located just South of the Astrodome. In addition to being the home of three other Blue Lodges, it’s where the Valley of Houston Scottish Rite organization meets. If you’ve ever been curious about Freemasonry and want to know more, please feel free to stop by and give us a visit. We’d love to meet with you and answer any questions you may have about the Craft or our Lodge. Dinner is usually served at 6:30 PM and is free to visitors, but plan on coming in around 6:00 just to hang out and get to know us for a bit.

We’d love to meet you.
