TOM L. SHEARER (w∴m∴ 1988-1989)

Tom Lucas Shearer was born on March 24, 1959 in Houston, Texas. He was educated in the public school system of the city, graduating from Madison High School in 1977. After graduation he attended the University of Houston. He is President of Cody Creek Consultants, a retail consulting firm.

He has three children.

As a young man, Brother Shearer was a member of the Order of DeMolay, having received the degrees from Robert E. Lee Chapter in November 1973. He served as the 81st Master Councilor of that Chapter during the fall of 1978, and as the Illustrious Knight Commander of Houston Priory, Order of Knighthood. He is a former member of the Advisory Council of Robert E. Lee and Reagan Chapters, and is the Priory Advisor of Houston Priory, for service to which he was honored in 1990 and 1998 by being named Outstanding Priory Advisor in Texas. Because of his devoted service to the Order of DeMolay, he was invested with the Degree of Chevalier in 1977, invested as a member of the Legion of Honor in 1989, and awarded the Cross of Honor in 1992. He served as State Commander of Texas State Court of Chevaliers in 1999.

Brother Shearer received the degrees of Freemasonry from Jacques DeMolay Lodge No. 1390 in Houston, Texas. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on August 21, 1981; passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on May 27, 1982; and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on August 26, 1982. He served as Worshipful Master of the Lodge from 1988 to 1989. He served as the District Masonic Relations Officer of Masonic District 30-A for the years 1997-1999. In 1999, he was elected by the membership of the Lodge to receive the Golden Trowel Award. Brother Shearer is a re-constituting member of Doric Lodge no. 420 in 2009.

Brother Shearer is a member of Washington Chapter, Houston Council and Ruthven Commandery of the York Rite. He is a member of Anson Jones Council No. 47, Knight Masons of the United States of America and Sam Houston Chapter, Allied Masonic Degrees and is Past Sovereign Master of AMD and a recipient of the Red Branch of Eri.

Brother Shearer is a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, having received the degrees from the Houston bodies in September 1982. He is a past Chairman of the Lighting Committee, current member of the Eighteenth and Twenty-first Degree teams and the Royal Order of the Duck. He is also a founding member of the Houston Scottish Rite Learning Center. In 1998, He served as the Venerable Master of Kadosh of Houston Consistory. For his service and devotion to the Rite, he was invested with the rank and decoration of a Knight Commander of the Court of Honour in 1987, and coroneted an Inspector General Honorary of the Thirty-third Degree in 1999. He is served many years by special appointment on the Valley Chairman’s Advisory Board.

Brother Shearer has been a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since 1977, and is a Past Vice-Chairman of the Calf Scramble Committee. He is also a founding member of the Jacques DeMolay Lodge Scholarship Fund, Inc., and served as its President from its incorporation in 1989 to 1999.
