Johnie Cyril Murphy was born on November 5, 1918 in Farmersville, Texas. He moved to Houston in 1940, and was the owner of Johnie’s Garage, an automotive repair and body shop.

He was married, and had three children.

Brother Murphy received the degrees in Freemasonry from Jacques DeMolay Lodge No. 1390. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on April 10, 1964; passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on October 30, 1964; and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on December 4, 1964. He presided over the lodge as its seventeenth Worshipful Master for the 1976-1977 masonic year.

Brother Murphy was a member of the Chapter, Council and Commandery of the York Rite, and was also a member of the Shrine.

Brother Murphy was a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, having received the degrees from the Houston bodies.

Brother Murphy passed away on November 30, 1980 at the age of sixty-two. He was laid to rest in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Masonic graveside services were performed under the auspices of Jacques DeMolay Lodge No. 1390.
