Scott Hill Bumgardner, born on March 1, 1954 was raised in Houston and from the age of thirteen in Bunkie Louisiana. He was educated in the public school system of the cities. After graduation from Bunkie High School, he attended Northwestern State University and Northeast Louisiana University. In May of 1976 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law Enforcement. Upon graduation he joined the Houston Police Department where he served for twenty years. Retiring from police work in 1997, Scott took a position as the President of State Land Corporation, a family owned real estate investment business. He is
married to Maria Elena, has a daughter Kimberly and two grandchildren.

Brother Bumgardner was introduced to the Masonic family through the Order of DeMolay chapter in Bunkie Louisiana. He received the degrees of Freemasonry from Jacques DeMolay No. 1390 in Houston, Texas. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on July 16, 1998; passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on October 1, 1998 and was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on October 22, 1998. He served as the forty-fourth Worshipful Master of the
Lodge during the 2004-2005 Masonic year.

Brother Bumgardner is a member of a number of Masonic organizations including Arabia Shrine Temple, The Texas Lodge of Research, and Cowboy Lodge. He is also a member of the Houston area York Rite bodies, the Houston Chapter, Washington Council, and Ruthven Commandery #2. Scott is an active member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, having received the degrees from the Houston bodies in 1999. For his service and devotion to the Rite, he was invested with the rank and decoration of a Knight Commander of the Court of Honour in 2009.

Brother Bumgardner has other interests including ranching, cowboy poetry, and storytelling. The San Jacinto Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas granted him an Honorary Membership in 2000 for his work to promote Texas history. He has served in leadership positions in various historical and storytelling organizations including three terms as the President of the Houston Storytellers Guild. In 2009 he became a Lifetime Committeeman with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo after more than 21years of work as a member of the Corral Club, Speakers, and Magazine Committees.
