MICHAEL D. PHILLIPUS (w∴m∴ 1985-1986)

Michael Phillipus was initiated in the Order of DeMolay into Houston Chapter (previously St. John) in 1973. He is a Past Master Councilor and earned the Meritorious Service Award. He is a Past Illustrious Knight Commander of Houston Priory, Order of Knighthood, and earned the Meritorious Service Award. He was awarded the International Distinguished Service Award in 1979. He served as State Master Councilor of Texas DeMolay from 1980-1981. He received the Guild of the Leather Apron, Legion of Honor and Chevalier. He is a Past Commander of the State Court and serves as State Court Secretary. He is a Representative DeMolay and a certified DAD Advisor and Trainer. He was awarded the Cross of Honor, two Blue Honor Keys, the Medal of Appreciation, and the Hat’s Off Award. He was elected a Deputy Member of the Supreme Council in 1997. He currently serves as Chapter Dad of Houston DeMolay and Chairman for Houston Priory.

He was Raised a Master Mason in Aldine Lodge No. 1412 and is an Endowed Member. He is a Life and Endowed Member of Jacques DeMolay Lodge No. 1390 and was Worshipful Master in 1985-1986. He is a Charter and Endowed Member of Tranquility Lodge, a Charter Member of J.W. Chandler Lodge and a member of the Texas Lodge of Research. He served as District Deputy Grand Master in 1999 and served as District Education Officer in 2000. He has served the Grand Lodge on the Special Assignments and Youth Activities Committees. He is a Past President of the Jacques DeMolay Lodge Scholarship Fund, Inc. and is currently a director. In 2007, Jacques DeMolay Lodge presented him with the Golden Trowel Award.

He is a member of the Houston Scottish Rite, where he served as Master of Kadosh. He was coroneted a 33° Inspector General Honorary in 1999. He serves as Director of Work, is Degree Master of the 18th Degree and is a member of the Royal Order of the Duck. He is President and a member of the Board for the Houston Scottish Rite Learning Center. He is a member of the Scottish Rite Research Society. He is a Life Member of Chinar Grotto and a Past Monarch, serving in 1985. He is a member of Arabia Temple Shrine. He is an Endowed member of Washington Chapter No. 2, R.A.M. and Houston Council No. 1, R.&S.M., as well as an Endowed Member of Ruthven Commandery No. 2 K.T. and is a Super Excellent Master of Houston Council. He is also member of Park Place Chapter No. 458, R.A.M.; Park Place Council No. 373, R.&S.M.; and Park Place Commandery No. 106 K.T. where he served as Commander in 2008 and 2009. In 2009 he was elected to receive the Order of Knight of York in the Gulf Coast York Rite College, No. 106.

He is a Charter Member of the Allied Masonic Degrees into Sam Houston Council No. 175 where he served as Sovereign Master and was awarded the Red Branch of Eri. He is a Charter Member of Anson Jones Council, No. 47, Order of Knight Masons where he served as Excellent Chief. He is also a member of the Royal Ark Mariners, Ye Ancient Order of Corks and the Order of Knight of Constantinople, which are included in the Allied Masonic Degrees. He was invited into the Royal Order of Scotland and the Grand College of Rites. He is a member of Garden Oaks Chapter No. 987, O.E.S. and is a Past Patron of Houston Heights Chapter No. 258, OES. He is a Past Royal Patron and a Life Member of Houston Court No. 2, Order of the Amaranth. He is also a member of Cross of Texas Shrine No. 1, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. He is a member of Texas College, Societas Rosicruciana In Civitatibus Foederatis (VII Grade) and a Charter Member of the High Twelve Club No. 736. He is a Past Bethel Guardian and Jurisdictional Bethel Guardian for Job’s Daughters International and was honored as a Member of Honor.

Professionally, he is Director of Insurance and Risk Management for ATP Oil & Gas Corporation.

He has been a member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Houston chapter since 1985. In 1989 he was elected as director of the Houston chapter and served as president of the chapter in 1995. Elected to the RIMS (National Organization) Executive Council from 1999-2000. In January 2010 he was elected to the Board of Directors of RIMS.

He is married to the former Donna Elizabeth Warren and they reside in Kingwood, Texas.
