ROBERT W. SMITH, JR. (w∴m∴ 1980-1981)
(deceased)

Robert W. Smith, Jr., was born on October 4, 1947 in Arkansas City, Kansas.

He was employed as a Chief Electrical Engineer, first with the Gulf Interstate Company and afterward with Bechtel France.

He was married, with three children, a son and two daughters

Brother Smith received the degrees of Freemasonry from Eastgate Lodge No. 1153 in Houston. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on August 10, 1951; passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on April 10, 1952; and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on July 10, 1952. He affiliated with Jacques DeMolay Lodge as a charter member, and served as Worshipful Master from 1980 to 1981, the last charter member to hold that position.

As for other masonic bodies, Brother Smith was a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, having received the degrees from the Houston bodies in March and April 1961.

In November 1984, Brother Smith withdrew his membership from the entire body of Freemasonry, stating that his membership was in conflict with his religious beliefs. He was issued a demit from Jacques DeMolay Lodge on December 14, 1984.

Brother Smith passed away on March 31, 1997 at the age of 69. He was laid to rest at Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania.
